The large book ‘As a Matter of Fact’ with the stories of Michael O’Rior-dan (the Rúnaí) was launched on Wednesday night, August 3rd in the hall, Castlemahon by Cllr. Jerome Scanlan Feohan-agh. At the beginning prayers were offered and condolences were extended to the families of Rory O’Donnell, Paddy Doody, John Carroll, Junior and Jerry Molyneaux who died recently, and also to all the families who had bereave-ments since the last launch.
This was the 2nd edition of enjoyable and entertaining stories compiled into book form. The 1st edition ‘Beyond the Myths’ was launched four years ago in July 2012. Displayed on the table on Wednesday night were five special Feohanagh/Castle-mahon parish books which were a great credit to all the authors and editors.
From the Bog to the Bis-hop, Mahoonagh’s Relig-ious by Margaret Doody/Scully; By the Upper Deel, Feohanagh/Castlemahon GAA, history (1895 -1990) by Frank Phelan and Mick Dwane; Call me David, Bishop Cremin, a Memoir by Fr. John McSweeney; Beyond the Myths, 1st edition, the stories of the rúnaí by Eamonn; As a Matter of Fact 2nd edition, the Stories of the Rúnaí by his son Eamon.
MC Pat Normoyle warmly welcomed Cllr Jerome who was on his 3rd term of office, having headed the poll on two consecutive occasions and was a man who would be familiar with the stories and the characters involved in the writings of Michael O’Riordan, (The Runaí). Over a twenty five minute period Jerome covered briefly and made special reference to each of the stories, and in launching the book he praised Eamon highly. To the large attendance present he recommended the book for all to enjoy the many entertaining stories. Other speakers included Fr. John Duggan, former parish priest, Sr. Eileen Lenihan, Fr. Donagh O’Malley who all congratulated Eamon and wished every success to the book after which Eamon also spoke and thanked Jerome for the excellent launching and also thanked the good and appreciative attendance. After the launch the pleas-ant gathering of friends of the O’Riordan family all enjoyed tea and sandwiches with much thanks to Annette Coughlan and her catering friends who all enjoyed the chat and meeting old friends. Enter-tainment was to follow but as a mark of respect to families in the parish who had suffered bereavements, the entertainment was cancelled. The story book is a book that will be there for future generations to read and is on sale in shops in Castlemahon, Feoh-anagh, Dromcollog-her, Broadford, Raheenagh, Newcastle West and is great value for €20. Net proceeds in aid of Milford Hospice.
