Packed houses on Saturday and Sunday last at Mallow Handball Court were treated to a great feast of handball at the Juvenile County Handball Championship Finals generously spon-sored by Mallow Credit Union. Because of the huge number of finals to be played -18 in all- the decision to divide the games to two days made it more comfortable for all concerned and cut down on the long waiting time for parents and players to get to their game. The 14-17 year olds played on Saturday, commencing at 5pm and the 8-13 year olds played on Sunday, starting at 10am. Everybody agreed it was a much better arrangement than before. The handball played was of a very high standard and competition was very keen in all games. The winners were spread over the following clubs, Liscaroll, Boherbue, Ballydesmond, Kilworth, Fermoy and Mallow. Mallow, having the most winners in the finals, retained the Mallow Credit Union Shield for the 8th year in succession which is a record never before achieved by any club. Great credit must go to the young players, to the coaches for their many hours of hard work in moulding their skills and to the parents for their loyal support throughout the year.
