Emily Rose McCarthy from Abbeyfeale was among Ireland’s most aspiring academics and leaders who were com-mended for their hard work by President Michael D Higgins at the annual All-Ireland Scholarship Awards at University of Limerick last weekend. At the event, which is sponsored by JP McManus, 125 Leaving Cert and A-level graduates were awarded scholarships worth €6,750 per annum. Emily Rose, who went to Coláiste Ide agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale, is now studying physics at UL, and last year she won a silver medal at the European Union Science Olympiad in Estonia. The 125 award recipients were congratulated by Mr McManus, who said: “Your hard work and that of your teachers has paid off, and my hope for you is that this award will help to progress you to the career of your choice and to further achieve-ment and fulfilment.”
