NINE COUNTY TITLES FOR RATHKEALE BOXING CLUB

What a hectic week it was again for the club as last Thursday night we had four lads selected to box on the Limerick team against a Cork selection which was held in the K2C club in Blackpool. First through the ropes was Jamie Harty as he took on Craig Condon in what was a cracking contest. Right from the off Harty was the aggressor landing fast body shots and left hooks to the head and all behind a great jab so a win for Harty at the end. Next in was Darragh O’Grady against James Keenan in a very tough one for O’Grady as he felt the power of Keenan right away so Darragh had to keep on his toes and potshot at Keenan to try and score but at the end Darragh couldn’t keep Keenan at bay so it was a win for Cork. Next in was Terry O’Brien against Darnell Laffan in what was fight of the night with no one looking to take a step back and both lads had their share of spoils but at the end it was a majority win for the Cork lad. Next in was Steven Casey against Richie McCarthy in what was always going to be a great contest as these two lads have a lot of experience but it was the accuracy of Casey that proved at the end that it was another win for Limerick. The Limerick team won overall on a 7/5 score over Cork. The following night it was back to the K2C again this time with four of our young warriors, first into the ring was Jamie Healy against Mike Faulkner of Fermoy in what was a cracking fight with both lads standing toe to toe in the centre of the ring giving their all with both hands raised at the end. All boxers under the age of 11 are winners which is very fair on everyone. Next in was the tough Mickey McNamara against Mike O’Reilly from Mitchels-town in another great scrap as both lads had their good bits and bad bits in all three rounds, well done to both lads. Next in was Mike McGowan against Adam Buckley from Fermoy in again a mighty fight. It was so good that both clubs want a rematch in Shanagarry in the coming weeks. Last, in his first ever fight, was Seán Malone against Dean Murray from Fermoy. Seán used his height and reach to great effect to keep Buckley at bay, catching him with some good shots to the head and body as he came in, one to watch for in the future.

Last Sunday we took home nine Limerick county titles from the Corpus Christi club, champions are Steven Casey, Micky Harty, Cormac Long, Terry O’Brien, Francis O’Brien, Willie Harty, Siobhán Scanlon, Cian O’Shaughnessy and Emer Feane, who will now train even harder over the coming weeks as they will be looking to add Munster titles and then hopefully head to the home of boxing in Dublin hoping to be crowned All Ireland Champions.
