One of the largest community projects ever seen in Abbeyfeale was the subject of a public presentation/consultation last Thursday night in the Glorach Theatre, where plans were revealed for the renovation and development of the old convent building in the town. The meeting was organised by Abbeyfeale Community Council (ACC), and speakers included Maurice O’Con-nell and Trevor McCarthy, who said that the expected cost of the project was upwards of €3.5 million. Mr O’Connell explained to those present that most of the funding would come from the larger agencies, but around 10% (or €300,000) would have to be raised locally in order to show the directors of the funding agencies that those living in and around the Abbeyfeale area were supportive of such a project. More details will be announced shortly. (See page 22).
