Galbally has enjoyed good news this week with the confirmation of Leader funding to the tune of nearly €120,000 for local projects.
The proposed Galbally Playground project is to get an injection of €84,744, while the planned upgrade of lighting and the widening of the walkway in the Village Park is to benefit from €25,565 in a Leader allocation, in addition to a grant of €9,000 through a Sports Capital grant.
The news was confirmed to the Vale Star by local Fianna Fail councillor, Eddie Ryan, who was instrumental in having the applications processed and successfully concluded.
Both projects come under the auspices of Galbally Community Council and the funding boost has been warmly welcomed by local clubs and organisations.
“This is a great boost for the parish, as the money will help to considerably enhance the facilities in the Village Park, Galbally Community Council secretary,”Sinéad Meade said.
The news was applauded by the playground committee, who, it is understood, have also received a substantial funding injection from a private donor in the region.
Tricha Blackburn of the local athletics club, The Mooereabbey Milers, who extensively use the facilities at the Galbally Community Village Park, expressed her delight at the funding: “The Mooreabbey Milers A.C. are delighted to be awarded funding for the upgrade of the lights in the community field in Galbally. It will be of great benefit to the club, but, most importantly, it will enhance the use of the field for the wider community.
Fittingly, it was a community effort that secured this funding and we would like to say a big thanks to Galbally Community Council, Cllr Eddie Ryan and the Playground Group for all their help and support. We have to say thanks also to our own committee and, especially, Tricia Ryan, who spearheaded the application on behalf of the club.”
