Mallow gets its St Patrick’s Day Parade after all

Mallow will have a St Patrick’s Day Parade this Saturday after all, following the intervention of Mallow Tidy Towns, who arranged insurance cover with their insurers.
Noel O’Connor, Chairman of the St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, confirmed on Tuesday that the parade will set off from the Park Road on Saturday at 2pm, led by a colour guard and the Thomas Davis Pipe Band, with Grand Marshal Corrie O’Flynn. The parade will proceed from West End to the reviewing platform in front of the former Mallow Park Hotel, and MC Michael O’Donovan will as usual be name-checking all the groups as they pass by.
Brendan O’Shea of Mallow Tidy Towns praised the work of chairman Niall O’Keeffe towards getting the parade back on track. “Niall led the line, with the help of Mary Hayes of the Municipal District, and the Tidy Towns committee was in a position to help because it is a limited company with liability cover.”
Commenting on the on again/off again parade, Mr O’Connor praised everyone involved in keeping the event going, and noted the public outcry when word first went out that the parade had been cancelled. “We are expecting a great turnout on the day, and are expecting that the young and the old participants, and those looking on, will have a great, free, fun-packed day.”
