John Crowley Retires

A dedicated and long serving member of Cork County Council retired yesterday (Wednesday) after 42 years of service. Mallow man John Crowley from Canon Sheehan Place joined the council in 1978 and was a truck driver with various teams for over 23 years. John was based in Charleville for 12 years and worked in various centres throughout Cork including Castletownroche, Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Kanturk as well as in his home town. John hung up his lorry keys yesterday for the last time on his 66th birthday. John is well known throughout the county as a loyal supporter of Cork in both hurling and football and has driven to far off venues of the country in sometimes atrocious weather to support the rebels in league and championship competition. His destinations included Donegal, Galway, Mayo and of course Croke Park if Cork were in action. He now says he is looking forward to a few pints of Murphy’s in Jim O’Keeffe’s Bar when this dreaded Covid-19 has left us. Wishing John much happiness and good health in his retirement.
