BUST OF THOMAS DAVIS PRESENTED TO MALLOW TOWN COUNCIL

The Thomas Davis Chamber in Mallow Town Hall was the scene of a special occasion on Monday night when a bust of Thomas Davis was formally handed over to Mallow Town Council. The bust will go on display in the Town Hall and will form part of the bicentenary celebration of the birth of Thomas Davis, in 2014.

Speaking on Monday night, Mayor Dan Joe Fitzgerald thanked Tim Sheehan for his hard work in commissioning the bust of Davis, and also John McDonell and members of Mallow Development Partnership. Tim Sheehan also spoke, and he traced the history of Thomas Davis, his great relevance to Mallow and his massive contribution to Ireland and its people. John McDonnell said he was delighted to be present on the occasion, and he praised Tim Sheehan for his hard work.

Other speakers included Frank Killilea of Thomas Davis Comm-emoration Committee, Cllrs. Willie O’Regan, Richard Dempsey, Noel O’Connor, Róisín Lucey, James Kennedy, Jerry Mullally and John Paul O’Shea, Liam Sampey, Aidan Weir, and Michael O’Sullivan. The evening began with piper Jerry O’Calla-ghan playing ‘A Nation Once Again,’ and concluded with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, following which everyone crossed the road to the birthplace of Thomas Davis, now Maureen’s bar, for refreshments.
