This weekend will see people of all ages flock to Kilmallock for the Headless Horseman Festival and a weekend of cycling, dancing, choir singing, kayaking, food, live music and lots more.
The weekend kicks off with a fun cycle on Easter Saturday 7th April at 2pm from Deebert House Hotel. The cycle is open to all ages, from the fit to the not so fit, from the serious to the not so serious. Routes are available for all age groups from small children up to the fit teenage cyclists so all you need are a bike, a helmet and €2. Under 12s to be accompanied by an adult. And if the cycle isn’t for you, then head for the Pastoral Centre at 4.00 pm where a Kiddies Disco is awaiting pre-school and primary school children. Let them bop to the beats of DJ Derek while you relax with a cup of coffee from the shop in the Pastoral Centre. Admission is €2 – no buggies or prams allowed. The long awaited Choral Recital in the 13th Century Dominican Priory is scheduled to start at 7pm on Saturday. Featuring three of the countries top choirs but yet three Kilmallock’s choirs, be enthralled as you relax to the sounds of the finest hymns and songsbeing performed. Listen as the brief history of the Abbey is told as some of Kilmallock’s finest musicians entertain you. This will run for approximately one hour and Easter Saturday Mass will commence at 9.00 pm in Kilmallock. Admission is free.
Sunday morning at 8.30am with the Headless Horseman Adventure Race starts from Deebert House Hotel. Follow in the historic footsteps of the Normans, embark on a 45 mile journey with three stages beginning in Kilmallock, take in the beautiful Ballyhoura mountain trail and kayak around the mystical Lough Gur before completing your journey through one of the medieval gates in Kilmallock. Enjoy the festivities on Sarsfield Street, which will be closed to traffic, where fire-eaters, magicians, balloon makers will captivate children while taking you back in time. Don’t be hungry as you will be spoilt for choice from our food stalls, pig-on-the-spit, tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes, burgers, crepes, ice-cream and Mr. Finn’s sweets.
The Town Centre Live Music Event takes place on Sunday evening commencing at 7.00 pm. The Superdome stage will be set up in the street and enjoy the atmosphere while our DJ Mossie Richardson warms up the crowd. Kilmallock then welcomes ‘The Strypes’ a 4 piece band from Cavan who know how to party before ‘Hermitage Green’ one of Limerick’s finest new bands take the stage. Monday sees the return of the Ballyhoura Food Fair where they come in their 100s to taste and purchase some of the finest local produce and we also have the Golden Vale Bank Holiday Mart which features 100’s of stalls which cater for everyone. Kilmallock is the place to be this Easter weekend.
