North Cork TD Seán Sherlock this week repeated his call for Transport Infrastructure Ireland to deliver the budget for road safety works on the N73 Mallow to Mitchelstown Road at Clogher Cross, saying it’s vital that the budget is delivered. “We were disappointed to see no specific mention of the N73 in the recent Budget,” said Deputy Sherlock. “However, I specifically asked Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan in a Parliamentary Question if the Budget Estimates include provision for the works on the N73. The latest response from the TII shows that, while they are engaged in making areas like Kildorrery village safer, which I welcome and have advocated for, there is still no certainty and no clarity on the budget for the N73.”
“It is an unsafe road,” he continued. “And just because an accident or collision hasn’t happened, it doesn’t mean that it’s not going to happen, because it’s the number of heavy goods vehicles that use the road, who have to traverse through the white line at points where there are no verges, so there’s no margin for error for drivers. That’s why they have to slow down to a stop.”
