MALLOW’S NEW PARKING SYSTEM COMES INTO EFFECT

The recently-announced changes to the parking payment structure for the streets and car parks of Mallow come into effect as of tomorrow, Friday, 1st July.
Following numerous extensions to the free parking scheme introduced in the town in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cork County Council recently con-firmed that paid parking would be returning to the town this summer – albeit with the welcome leeway of a free first hour.
In addition, those who park in the town will not be required to display a parking ticket if they are parking for less than one hour. Should the length of stay exceed one hour, a charge of 80c per hour on-street, or 70c per hour in council-owned car parks, will apply. Maximum duration will be indicated by signage in the affected areas, while the areas of Beecher Street and Navigation Road will remain free-parking areas.
At the time of the announcement, Cllr. Gearóid Murphy wel-comed the introduction of one-hour free parking in Mallow, saying, “the new system of one-hour free parking was designed to encourage shoppers and local people to come into Mallow, while also making sure that there are parking spaces available for everyone. I believe that one-hour free parking sends a positive message and will play an important role in making the town convenient and access-ible.”
The scheme will operate on a trial basis for the time being, to be reviewed at the end of the year, while the hours of operation will be Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm, with Sundays and bank/public holidays excluded.
