Councillor wants local authority to take over road to Mallow Swimming Pool

The road to Mallow Swimming Pool should be taken over by Cork Co. Council, so that traffic wardens can access the road and deal with illegal parking, according to Cllr Liam Madden who said this week that, as the road is parish-owned, action can’t be taken against cars which are parked on double yellow lines and are causing an obstruction.
Cllr Madden said that the road in question serves several amenities, including the youth centre, swimming pool, Scout hall, handball club and Mallow Town FC, which means that there is a lot of traffic in and out, and in the event of an emergency situation an ambulance would find it hard to gain access.
“The road is parish property, and if the council took it over, proper traffic enforcement could be introduced which would solve the problem [of illegal parking], the councillor said, adding that as well as this extra parking spaces are needed because of the number of organisations using the amenities in the area. One idea, he said, was that the field opposite Mallow Community Youth Centre could be converted into a car park. This green area is not much used, he said, and it would help to ease traffic congestion.
