Golden Globe-winner Cillian Murphy is famously a Cork actor, but not many people know about his Killavullen roots. The ‘Oppenheimer’ star, winner of the best actor award at the Golden Globes last weekend, and among the frontrunners for an Oscar win, is son of Brendan Murphy who grew up in Killavullen, and he has many relatives in the area who no doubt are delighted with his big success in Hollywood. Cillian is also a nephew of the late Margaret Galvin, who was well-known locally for her own ability to entertain, in particular her rendition of ‘The Shape I Am In’, so maybe he owes his performing credentials to his Killavullen roots. Best wishes to Cillian in the Academy Awards in March, and if he wins the statuette, maybe he’ll call to Killavullen in the months ahead to show it off!
