Mallow ITA Taekwon-Do enjoyed celebrations in the club this week with the return of 5 students from Poland. These students travelled to Lublin, Poland with Master Buckley and Team Ireland last week to compete in the AETF 2024 European Championships.
Jack Barrett won a bronze medal in individual -50kg junior sparring narrowly missing out in a place in the final in the last few seconds.
Dean Carthy won a bronze medal in individual in -57kg senior sparring in an all Ireland close semifinal.
Mark Heavin and Joey Shaw won silver medals with the junior male sparring team. They beat Scotland, Poland and Slovenia to get to the final against Ukraine giving a fantastic performance losing by 1 point.
Cian Barrett competed in his first Senior competition after being a very successful junior Irish team member the last few years. Cian got to the quater finals losing to Italy. He performed very well and the experience will be a huge asset to him.
We are very proud of the lads, they train extremely hard and dedicate themselves to this sport.
With over 800 competitors from all over the world, medals are hard earned and we are very proud of all our students achievements.
We have a very young Irish team who are developing and getting better with every campaign.
Ireland ranked 3rd overall at these championships with a total of 9 gold, 7 silver and 14 bronze medals.
We have our annual flag day this Saturday in Mallow and we are grateful to our community for your continued support.
We wish to thank everyone for their support with our fundraising throughout the year to help these athletes with funding trips to these championships.
