Fifteen groups are in the running for the 2024 Limerick Going for Gold Final, which will be held next month. Going for Gold Environmental Improve-ment Grant and Competition is run by Limerick City and County Council in conjunction with the JP McManus Charitable Foundation.
The grant scheme aims to assist with Sustainable Environmental Improve-ment works undertaken by non-profit making organisations working within Limerick City and County administrative area. The prize fund is €60,000.
In alphabetical order, those shortlisted are Askeaton, Athea, Ballysteen, Broadford, Castleconnell, Feenagh, Garrienderk, Glenroe, Glin, Kilmallock, Kilmeedy, Kilteely, Patrickswell, Rathkeale and Rockhill/Bruree.
Mayor John Moran said: “The passion and commitment displayed by community groups and residents’ associations across Limerick make this a remarkable competition each year. Every participant deserves recognition for their outstanding efforts in enhancing and beautifying our communities.”
Mayor Moran continued, “I want to acknowledge the ongoing support of the JP McManus Charitable Foundation and the media partners, who work with the Council to deliver this unique competition in Limerick each year. I look forward to celebrating the Grand Final and the continued excellence of Limerick’s vibrant and hardworking volunteers.”
Judging took place across three categories: Going for Gold Tidy Towns; Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom; and Residential.
The competition judges are Michael Griffin and Pat Shearin.
Mr Griffin commented: “Judging Limerick Going for Gold was once again both a challenging and enjoyable experience. We took time over our judges’ request awardees and were delighted with the 2024 efforts of community groups and residents’ associations across Limerick”
The judges have also added some new awards to recognise the excellent work undertaken by volunteers across Limerick.
The Grand Final of Limerick Going for Gold takes place in the Strand Hotel on October 23rd.
