Aileen Browne co-opted to Cork County Council

Charleville’s Aileen Browne has been selected as the co-opted Council successor to newly-elected TD John Paul O’Shea for the Kanturk Local Electoral Area.
At a selection convention in the Charleville Park Hotel on Monday evening, Ms Browne, current vice-chairperson of Charleville GAA Club, was selected by Fine Gael to succeed Deputy O’Shea following his election to Dáil Eireann last month, and will be officially co-opted to the role at this Friday’s meeting of Cork County Council.
Ms Browne said on social media following Monday’s meeting: “Very proud to have been selected by Fine Gael members to replace John Paul O’Shea on Cork County Council. Looking forward to the first council meeting on Friday.”
Ms. Browne created history in 2019, when she was elected as the first female Chairperson in Charleville GAA Club’s history. She was also appointed as a Peace Commissioner by the Department of Justice in 2013, and worked as Mid-West Area Manager with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service before taking on the role of Business Manager at the Dept of Public Health Mid-West.
