Some lucky punter, whose identity remains a secret, is this week celebrating after scooping €500,000 in the Euro Millions Plus Draw.
The ticket was purchased in Sheehy’s Centra in Kilfinane sometime on Fri-day, and nobody has yet – publicly at least – come forward to claim the prize.
Sheehy’s Centra have been running the lottery agency for over ten years. “It is far and away the biggest win we had to date. Previously I think €500 was the highest. We have no notion who the winner is but we may eventually track down who it is. All we were told by Euro Millions is that the winning ticket was sold on Friday afternoon,” said proprietor Patrick Sheehy.
Sheehy’s were informed early on Sunday that they had sold the winning ticket and since then various rumours have been circulating regarding the identity of the winner. Kilfinane was a hive of activity last weekend with a huge influx of visitors to the town for the European Mountain Bike Championships being staged at the Ballyhoura Trails and the annual Rocky Mayhem Festival. “There were a lot of strangers around and also extra tickets were being sold to coincide with Father’s Day so it may not have been anyone local. Numerous names have been mentioned but they are all denying it. Hopefully whoever got it needs it and that they will enjoy it,” Mr. Sheehy added.
