The hard work of everybody associated with Mallow Tidy Towns was rewarded this week when the town’s overall marking showed a sharp increase of six marks when the National Tidy Towns results were announced on Monday.
The town gained marks in the categories of landscaping, wildlife and natural amenities, waste minimisation, and litter control, Mallow is showing that despite the recession and doom and gloom elsewhere, things are improving in Mallow. Tidy Towns Chairman Paddy Whelan thanked and paid tribute to all the volunteers who came out and helped over the year and to all the businesses that cleaned and tidied around their premises. Paddy paid special tribute to the many residents associations in town who keep their estates so neat and tidy, cutting grass, weeding, painting, litter picking. Residents associations are such a vital part of keeping a town tidy and Mallow is lucky to have such strong and active associations in many of the estates. The National Tidy Towns judge was particularly impressed with the work of the residents in Sean Moylan Park; Willow Bank; Quartertown Village; the Beeches; Castlepark and Granary Court.
The town is getting better, looking brighter and tidier, more people are getting involved, and more people are enjoying helping out for an hour or two every so often and that commitment is justified and rewarded.
