On Thursday last retired Major General Carl Dodd launched volume 29 of the Mallow Field Club Journal before a large audience in the Arches function room. Carl Dodd grew up in Mallow, attending St Patricks N.S. and the Patrician Academy. He went on to have a distinguished career in the Army, retiring as UN Chief of Staff of UNSTO in Jerusalem. In his address he spoke of growing up in Mallow and about his career in the Army and with the UN. He referred to recent speeches by President Michael D Higgins and Queen Elizabeth in highlighting the importance of history and culture. Launching the Journal, he praised the quality of the articles which this year focus on modern and contemporary Mallow history. The Journal is widely available at €15.
