All-Ireland silver medallists welcomed home at mallow golf club

It was a special night in our club last Sunday as we welcomed home our All-Ireland silver medallists from their supreme efforts in Carlow at the weekend. Over an exhausting two days (and that was only the supporters) our ladies, led by Manager Edel Callanan, managed to outclass Limerick Golf Club in the quarter final, Naas in the semi-final, only to succumb to last year’s winners Roscommon on the final green. As the ladies were applauded into the clubhouse, Lady Captain Breda spoke of her absolute pride in this team and how heartening it was to see them perform on a national stage in such an impressive fashion. All speakers on the night referenced their pride and gratitude for the efforts put in, and sacrifices made, by this group of women as they prepared to represent their club at the very highest level. The turn out on the night was a reflection of the pride felt by members and as Sean Conway pointed out, Mallow can now boast of Munster Champions and All Ireland silver medallists – not a bad return at all!
Managers: Edel Callanan/Mary Dowling .

Junior squad win Golf Ireland Sixes League
Another great day for Mallow Golf Club on Sunday 25th August when they won the Inaugural Sixes Golf League played in Muskerry Golf Club. This competition is for boys and girls under 13 years and was a fantastic achievement for Mallow considering that most of the team are eligible for the next three years. The competition started in July and Mallow was in a cluster that included Monkstown, Lee Valley, Doneraile, Kanturk and Muskerry and played at various venues. Mallow had a squad of 16 players who put in a lot of work preparing for the various matches.
Many thanks to the parents and families who brought the children to all the training sessions in preparation for these events. On Sunday, in Muskerry, at the presentation of the winning trophy and medals to the Mallow team Captain John Roche thanked Manager/Coach Mary Redmond for all the work she has put into this team over the last few months. Captain John also acknowledged all the work Mary has done over the years for the junior members of the club. Mary was ably assisted along the way with the Sixes team by Junior Officer Tim O’Callaghan, Paul O’Keeffe, Noreen Murphy and Joe Crowley. Huge thanks to all who helped out on the day and to our supporters who turned out to support and encourage this team.
Our team in Monkstown was as follows: Harry Williamson, Conor Whooley, Murray O’Grady, Liam O’Connell, Emer Shannon and Emily Sheedy.
Well done to all involved and congratulations again.
