The community of Killavullen is delighted this week following news that Cork’s own Cillian Murphy had won a Best Actor Oscar at the prestigious Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood on Sunday night. Cillian’s father Brendan is a Killavullen native, and the parish is thrilled at the news. Cillian has been a star for many years, and many will recall the part he played in the award-winning film ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’, parts of which were filmed around Mallow and North Cork, and of course starred local actors such as Martin Lucey. Given Cillian’s great success with ‘Oppen-heimer’, one suspects that we will be seeing him in many more box-office films in the years to come.
