Legendary hurlers Ben and Jerry O’Connor, who won All-Ireland honours with Newtownshandrum and also with Cork, will be featured tonight, Thursday, on the TG4 programme ‘Laochra Gael’. For over 45 years, Ben and Jerry O’Connor have shared an unbreakable bond – both on and off the field. Even today, they live just a hundred yards apart, each raising three children, their lives continuing to run parallel. Their deep connection extended onto the pitch, where they became central figures in Newtownshandrum’s rise to the All-Ireland Club Championship title in 2004. Their talents were soon called upon to bring Cork to similar heights. During their inter-county careers, Ben captured three All-Ireland medals, with Jerry sharing in two of those triumphant moments. Together, they left an indelible mark on Cork hurling, their names forever etched in the county’s rich sporting history. The documentary will be broadcast at 9.30pm.
