Benemerenti Award for Sr. Perpetua

A well-known and recognisable person both in Mallow and Buttevant, Sr. Perpetua O’Donog-hue will receive a Papal award later this month. The Ballyporeen native has been a Mercy Sister for almost seventy years. That’s not giving her age away as she guards that secret well! Her ministry as a Mercy Sister has taken her to Cobh for her noviciate, Dublin for her professional training, St. Colman’s College, Fermoy as Supervisor of Catering and for the past 35 years she has been active at the Mercy Centre, Buttevant where she has led the Active Retired Groups and Meals on Wheels Service. She is a true inspiration for all who wish to make the very most out of every day that is given and lived to the full! Not alone all that, she has in recent years been travelling between Mallow and Ballyporeen to care for her two brothers in their time of need.
Sometimes the flowers come too late for inspirational people like Sr. Perpetua, so the Pastoral Council of Buttevant Parish have ensured that her amazing ministry to the parish will be celebrated and recognised publicly. Bishop William Crean will confer the ‘Benemerenti’ (Well Deserved) Papal Award on Sr. Perpetua on Sunday 29th September next at the 12noon Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Buttevant. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the award with Sr. Perpetua. She has invited loads of her friends and work colleagues and they will head after Mass to the Muintir na Tíre Hall for lunch organised by the members of the Parish Pastoral Council. This is a great opportunity for all who admire this truly dedicated and faithful Sr. Perpetua to come and heap our bouquets of appreciation on her achievements.
