Limerick City and County Councillor Seamus Browne has welcomed confirmation of an extension to the opening season for Desmond Castle.
“Following a motion I proposed at a full council meeting representations were made to the OPW and they have agreed a two week extension to the opening of the Castle, with the season now beginning from 11th May. The visitor numbers have more than doubled in the last 4 years to over 11,000 and this earlier start should ensure a further significant increase in the coming year.”
“Desmond Castle is an important attraction and local pubs, shops and hotels will all benefit from this extension. This announcement is a good start, but much more still needs to be done to boost local tourist revenues. We badly need a tourism forum for County Limerick where all stakeholders can come together and work to promote our county and all it has to offer.”
