Charleville and Millstreet are two out of four towns in Co. Cork which have achieved Age Friendly Town designation and will be included in the Cork County Council Age Friendly County Pro-gramme 2020-2021. Over this period the towns will work with the local Municipal District to plan and implement local age-friendly networks and, in some cases, minor age-friendly infrastructural works. Each town will receive €10,000 over two years to achieve these aims. Age-friendly actions could include projects such as community gardens, provision of places to walk safely and/or walking groups, development of local networks of age-friendly businesses, age-friendly libraries, benches, pedestrian crossings and pavements, enhancement of parks for greater social and age-friendly exercise opportunities, befriending services to support isolated people, and other similar projects.
Details of initiatives will be announced at a later date.
