Cork ladies’ football lost two of its greatest players this week after sisters Ciara and Doireann O’Sullivan announced their retirement from inter-county competition. The two players have served on the Cork senior panel for 28 years between them and have brought unprecedented success to their home club, Mourneabbey, and to the Cork set-up. Ciara was captain of the last Cork team to win the All Ireland, in 2016, and has won eight All Irelands in total, plus five All Stars. Doireann succeeded Ciara as captain of Cork and in a glittering career has won five All-Ireland titles, and one All-Star in 2018. While retiring from the inter-county scene, Ciara and Doireann will continue playing with Mourne-abbey, and Cork manager Shane Ronayne this week wished them all the best on their retirement from the inter-county scene, describing them as phenomenal players who have given exceptional service to the Rebel County.
