Davis College presented the first annual Star of Davis Talent Competition last Thursday night, and despite the poor weather conditions, the hall was seated to capacity. Those in attendance enjoyed exhilarating performances from twenty of Davis’ finest. The presenters on the night, Jacqui Stovell and Alan O’Keeffe, were excellent hosts. Each act was named under the categories; group, solo and alternative. Needless to say, the judges (RTÉ’s FAME finalist; Caoimhe Garvey, All-Ireland whistle champion Joanne Quirke, and world dancing champion John Ryan) had a difficult job deciding on an ultimate winner. This was determined in conjunction with a public vote on the night. This year the honour was bestowed upon 3rd year student, Clare Martin, who wowed everyone with her original composition, ‘My Old Friend’. Congratulations to all those who participated! Other winners on the night included; solo, Luke Delaney; group, Colin and Ian Roche; alternative, Colin Davitt.
