Cllr. James Kennedy takes the reins as Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Chair

Last Friday, 1st July, Cllr James Kennedy was elected as the new Chair of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District. James has taken the chain of office from outgoing Chair, Cllr Gearóid Murphy.
At a meeting of Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Council, Cllr. Murphy was congratulated on a very good year, while all councillors wished Cllr. Kennedy the best for his term of office over the next 12 months.
Speaking to the Vale/Mallow Star, Cllr. Kennedy said “it is a real honour for me and my family to have been given the duty of serving the people of Mallow and the district as Chairperson, having previously served as Mayor of Mallow. I would encourage all community groups, businesses and voluntary groups to contact me if they have an event as I would be honoured to represent the town at the individual events”. Cllr Kennedy also noted that he hopes the next 12 months “will be a very good year for Mallow as the town continues to develop”.
Outgoing chair Gearóid Murphy said upon vacating the role, “It has been a wonderful honour to serve as Chair of the Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District. I would like to thank the local people, my colleagues in Cork County Council and the Council officials for their great support during my term. I was proud to see so many projects delivered throughout North Cork by Cork County Council over the last year. For example, in Mallow we saw the completion of the Cllr. Dan Joe Fitzgerald Boardwalk, a unique adventure playground at the Castle, a wonderful revamp of Tip O’Neill Park, new pedestrian crossings at Ballyviniter and outside College Wood and ongoing sewage and Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade works.
“I look forward to continuing to work for North Cork as a Councillor and wish the new Municipal District Chair Cllr. James Kennedy the very best of luck in the coming year.”
