Celebrity chef Eoin Sheehan of Pallaskenry has helped launch a Healthy Eating Programme targeted at 68,000 primary school children, including around 2,750 in County Limerick, across Ireland.
‘Incredible Edibles’ is a flagship programme from Agri Aware, the agri-food educational body which is a charitable trust and whose mission is to enhance agricultural literacy among the general public.
It is an experience-based healthy eating project which shows children how to grow fruits and vegetables, learn about where food comes from, and the importance of quality, sustainable food.
It also highlights the important role that fresh produce plays in a healthy balanced diet and the importance of consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.
Students explore four tasks during the programme, Sowing and Growing, Tracing our Food’s Journey, Roots to Recipes, and Balanced Bites.
Agri Aware Executive Director, Marcus O’Halloran said: “The importance of primary school students knowing where their food comes from is vital to ensure students not only appreciate the work that goes into producing food from a young age in this country but also make good choices regarding their eating habits.”
Eoin aims to educate everyone on the simplicity of good food made from the comfort of your own kitchens, an experience taken from growing up at home on his family farm in Pallaskenry, where he was always surrounded by homegrown food and fresh produce.
Eoin, 27, is the owner of ‘Country Munch’ and resident chef on Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock Show, along with being a respected nutritionist and food entrepreneur.
This is the 18th year of ‘Incredible Edibles.’
