Councillors John Paul O’Shea and Michael Creed have been selected by Fine Gael to represent the party in the Cork North-West constituency at the next general election.
The two Cork County councillors were selected at a convention at Springfort Hall Hotel, Mallow which was chaired by Minister Patrick O’Donovan.
Fine Gael has now selected 26 General Election candidates in sixteen constituencies.
Councillor John Paul O’Shea said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as a candidate for the Cork North-West constituency. Having served as a councillor in the Kanturk-Charleville local electoral area for a number of years, I’m confident I have the experience and energy to serve as a TD.
“Fine Gael is a party that strives for a fair and caring society, with a strong emphasis on enterprise and supporting local businesses. I believe I can be a vocal representative for the community on these issues.
“I have a strong track record of delivering solutions to issues that are important to people in our community, and I pledge to work night and day to address the challenges we face.
“With the retirement of Deputy Michael Creed, I will do everything possible to ensure that the people of Cork North-West will continue to have strong representation in Dáil Eireann by a Fine Gael TD after the next general election.”
Councillor Michael Creed said, “It is a great honour to have been selected to contest the General Election for Fine Gael in Cork North-West.
“I have a proven track record of working hard for the community to make this area a great place to live and work since I was first co-opted to the council in 2007.
“I believe that from my experience as a councillor I can be a strong voice for the people of Cork North-West and will work hard to ensure that our community thrives.
“We have achieved a lot of wonderful things across the constituency, but there is more work to be done. I am passionate about fighting for rural Ireland and I believe that with my experience I can be a strong voice for farmers in Cork North-West.
“I believe we have every reason to be ambitious in this constituency and I look forward to working hard over the next few months to retain the Fine Gael seat here.”
