Kilfinane became the centre of attention for hundreds of people that gathered to enjoy the annual switching on of Christmas tree lights on Saturday evening last. This was an evening filled with all what you might expect in a major city but it was instead there, in the highest town in the county, that those in attendance enjoyed a spectacular event. Master of ceremonies, Tommy O’Sullivan, offered his sincere thanks to everyone who had helped out in organising the event and all the work that goes on behind the scenes. Tommy says this year was very special on many fronts as Kilfinane had lights shining brightly from West End to the bottom of Lower Main Street, with many surprises along the way,
“The centre piece of the display is the Christmas tree that stands over 40ft tall,” Tommy told the Vale Star. “The wonderful tree came courtesy of Michael and Margaret O’Donnell in Moorestown.”
Fr Chris O’Donnell was on hand to give a festive blessing to those in attendance and the light from the tree stands in memory of deceased members of the community. A special prayer was offered for the deceased members of the O’Donnell family. The crowd was then entertained by the local community choir who performed many favourite Christmas carols. Following a collective count down the tree was set a glow by Michael O’Donnell to loud applause. Tommy O’Sullivan has encouraged people to visit Kilfinane just to see what can be achieved when a community works together.
