A local tourism attraction has been announced as a finalist in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2024. Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum, a charitable institution dedicated to the pioneering days of aviation, was, at the weekend, confirmed to be on the shortlist in the yearly competition run by the National Lottery, already guaranteeing themselves €1,000 for the accomplishment. Foynes is nominated in the Heritage category.
The National Lottery citation on the West Limerick entrant reads: “Foynes Aviation and Maritime Museum, DAC, is a not-for-profit charitable institution. They are dedicated to preserving and telling the stories of the pioneering days of aviation and passenger travel across the North Atlantic, the rich maritime history of the River Shannon and the port of Foynes, and the local creation of Irish Coffee.”
The Good Causes Awards celebrate the inspirational work carried out by many volunteers, coaches, care-givers, and extraordinary people across Ireland, along with the organ-isations they represent. Beneficiaries will be judged on how the funds were used to make an everlasting impact on their local community, project, club, or service users. The winners of this year’s competition will be announced at a ceremony to be held in October at Killashee House Hotel, County Kildare, where winners across seven categories will receive €10,000, while the overall winner takes home an additional €25,000.
