Cork County Council has announced that the free parking in Mallow, introduced in June as part of a suite of measures to help revitalise businesses as they opened after the COVID-19 lockdown, will be extended until March of next year. The decision was made by County Councillors at Friday’s meeting of the Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District. Parking will continue to be free on-street and in all Council-operated carparks in Mallow town – however, time limits and other restrictions will continue to apply.
Welcoming the decision, Cllr. Gearóid Murphy (FF) said: “This programme has had a very positive impact on Mallow town in terms of attracting people into the town and I am delighted that it has been extended for a further six months. The current pandemic has taken a severe toll on the local economy, so it is crucial that the Council do whatever they can to support business here in Mallow.” (See page 11)
