Excitement continues to build in Galbally this week in advance of the Griffin’s Coaches Intermediate Football County Final where the local team will meet West Limerick rivals St Senan’s at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale, on Friday night, writes John Barrett. Local club members were out and about putting up bunting on Tuesday, and many premises in the South Limerick village are now festooned in the traditional Galbally colours of black and white, including the residence of long-time club mentor and former Limerick senior football selector, the irrepressible John Wallace.
The club at the foothills of the Galtees has been harvesting a rich yield in terms of underage success over recent years, which is now coming to fruition. This match affords Galbally an opportunity for a return to the senior football ranks again after a number of years in the intermediate grade. The local club is joined with Garryspillane GAA, and a number of the panel from the game on Friday night will also play with the Bouncers who have reached the County Intermediate Hurling Final against Murroe Boher on the following Sunday, 15th October. (See special feature on the Galbally v St Senan’s match on pages 77-79).
