Hall of Fame Award for Mallow’s ‘Mr. Basketball’

Michael Sullivan

A lifetime of dedication received a well-deserved reward last weekend when Michael Sullivan was presented with the Cork County Basketball Board Hall of Fame Award at a ceremony in Cork. Michael, who is nicknamed ‘Fox’, was one of the founding members of Mallow Basketball Club back in the early 1970s, taking charge of the boys’ side of the club, and over the past 45 years he has coached every boy in Mallow who has ever picked up a basketball.
Michael’s career is as valuable today as it was back in the early years, and he is currently coaching the Mallow U10, U12, U13 and U15 boys’ teams. He is also very involved with schools’ basketball and is currently coaching in the Patrician Academy, while also coaching Davis College teams in previous years.
A spokesperson for Mallow Basketball Club said this week that Michael is always ready and willing to help all of the teams at any time. He will rarely turn down a request, whether it is to help at table official duties, coaching or general help.  Also, he is always part of the supporting crowd at Mallow games, whether at home or in any corner of the county or country.
