Since its recent release, the new single ‘Home at Christmas Time’, from Gearóid McCarthy of Foynes, has proven a major social media festive hit. Filmed/recorded in the city and around his home town, it has received tens of thousands of streams on such platforms as TikTok (on which he has an astonishing 350,000 followers) Facebook and Spotify.
As a founder member of the legendary band Mad For Road, Gearóid enjoyed significant fame through their exposure on RTÉ when they reached the final of ‘The All Ireland Talent Show’ back in 2011. The group finished runners-up. Before that, he finished third in RTE’s ‘Class Act’.
Gearóid has spent seasons in the sun resorts of Lanzarote and Santa Ponsa, and more recently in residence with Raglan Road at Disney World in Orlando, United States. He also toured with Celtic Legends for a couple of years.
With a unique sound that blends traditional folk influences with contem-porary indie flair, the now-solo Gearóid is captivating audiences across the world. His second original single, ‘Going Out For One’, proved a major hit in the Summer. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Mumford and Sons, Christy Moore and Luke Kelly, his music is infused with raw emotion, poetic lyrics, and a captivating blend of traditional and modern instrumentation. Gearóid is currently on tour across the UK (and played to a captive audience at the London Irish Centre at the weekend, for example) and Ireland (a regular around Dublin’s Temple Bar), but is due ‘home’ in the coming days with a Limerick Christmas special performance listed for Adare on December 27th.
