The organisers of two of the most popular shows in the region will be hoping for some late rays of summer sunshine for their respective events over the coming two weekends, writes John Barrett.
The 67th annual Cappamore Show, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over Limerick and many adjoining counties each year, will be hosted in the showgrounds at Ballyvoreen on this Saturday 19th August. The 2023 Cappamore Show will again feature an extensive programme of events including music and dancing with top stars like John Hogan, Shaun O’Dowd and Molly O’Connell, the Green Village Initiative in association with St Ailbe’s Credit Union, show- jumping, cattle, horse and pony classes, cookery demonstrations with Edward Hayden and Jolene of One Yummy Mummy, archery, tug of war, the Limerick Food and Craft Experience and much more. The financial outlay involved in putting on last year’s Cappamore Show was a substantial €99,000 and the committee is extremely grateful to its many generous sponsors, whose support is vital to the continued success of an event that has stood the test of time for nearly seven decades. Cappamore Show gets underway from 11am on Saturday and you can peruse all the details by logging on to www.cappamoreshow.ie

92nd annual Limerick Show
Then, on the following Sunday, 27th August, the 92nd annual Limerick Show will take place at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell. The show, which is expected to attract up to 15,000 people, will feature hundreds of competitors and trade exhibitors, bringing the people of Limerick City and County together.
Limerick Show president, Leo Walsh, is looking forward to welcoming people back to experience a new and improved show for 2023: “We’re delighted that Limerick Show is back again this year, showcasing the very best of Limerick and the surrounding areas and we hope that this year, more than ever, people will come out and support the local farmers, producers and exhibitors that will be on display,” he said at the launch on Monday evening last.
A complimentary bus will be available from the city to and from the showgrounds, departing from the Gaelic Grounds at 10:30am/12:30pm, The Parkway Shopping Centre at 11am/1pm and The Crescent Shopping Centre at 11:30am/1:30pm. Return journeys will commence at 5pm. The official opening of Limerick Show will be performed by Seán Kelly MEP at 11.30am.
