The inaugural Jeremiah Ronayne Memorial Cycle begins this Saturday, 31st August, as 30 brave cyclists prepare to make the gruelling trek from Malin Head to Mizen Head in aid of Marymount Hospice.
Over the course of the seven-day run, the participants will pass through areas such as Ballybofey, Ballinamore, Birr, Charleville and Bantry, and are aiming to arrive at Mizen Head next Friday, 6th September.
Jeremiah Ronayne, a native of Lavally, Mallow, lost his battle with cancer last November. The idea for the cycle came from Jeremiah’s farming friends who wanted to honour his memory and in tandem with that, raise funds for Marymount Hospice, a place where Jeremiah and his family received support in the final stages of his illness.
A number of fundraisers for the event have been taking place over the past number of weeks, raising thousands of euro. All funds raised for the cycle go directly to Marymount, and all expenses involved in the cycle will be covered by the cyclists themselves.
Donations for this worthy cause can be made at: www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/MallowFarmers.
