Mayor Dan Joe Fitzgerald launched ‘Mallow in the 1990s Volume 2’ in Mallow Library last Thursday, describing the book of photographs by Mallow Star photographer Steve Murphy as a valuable record of life in the town as it approached the millennium. The book contains 265 pages of photos from the late 1990s, covering such events as Fergal McCormack winning an All Ireland hurling medal with Cork, the arrival of Fr. Declan Hennessy in town, the demolition of St. Joseph’s Road to make way for housing, the Peace March, President McAleese turning the sod on Mallow Day Care Centre, the knocking down of Golden’s pub, and much more. The book is on sale and would make an ideal Christmas present.
