Students from Munster Martial Arts which has classes in Newcastlewest travelled to Belfast last weekend to compete in the European Tang Soo Do Federations International Championships with the Limerick team winning a remarkable 52 medals at the tournament bringing home 24 Gold, 16 Silver and 12 bronze medals. On top of this senior black belt student Con Fitzgibbon won the Grand Champion Trophy at the competition for being the best overall black belt competitor. Con is the first Irish man to achieve this accolade. Students from the club competed in Traditional Forms and Weapon forms divisions as well as fighting divisions.
Munster Martial Arts teach the Korean Art of Tang Soo Do and is part of the Intercontinental Tang Soo Do Organisation. Classes are run in the Newcastlewest Community Centre Wednesdays at 7pm.
Speaking of the result Munster Martial Arts & ITO Ireland Chief Instructor Master Pat Forde said “It’s taken a few days for the result to sink in and I am so proud of the team and how we prepared for this event. On the day parents of our younger students were also fantastic. I am thrilled for Con who has been a student of mine for a very long time. He has won at international level at every stage of his time with me so for him to be the first Irish Man to win Grand Champion is so well deserved.”
