Minister of State at the Department of Finance Patrick O’Donovan recently officially launched the new Local Link 521 bus service in Newcastle West. This service, which has been running since mid-May, is operated by Limerick-Clare Local Link and provides a valuable public transport facility between Newcastle West and Charleville.
The service is funded by the National Transport Authority and operates Monday to Saturday, with six daily return services from Charleville. It serves Newcastle West, Castlemahon, Feohanagh, Kilmeedy, Dromcollogher, Milford Church, Newtownshandrum and Charleville with onward connections to Limerick, Galway, Tralee and Dublin.
Available to everyone
This rural-transport funded initiative is a mainstream public transport service which is available to everyone.
The 521 provides greater connectivity than ever before for these communities in rural Limerick and North Cork, who can now avail of quality public transport at local level.
It also provides a stronger link to national bus and rail networks in Newcastle West and Charleville.
The project represents a significant investment in rural transport specifically and public transport generally by the state.
