Mallow ITA Taekwon-Do enjoyed celebrations in the club last week with the return of their 8 students from Finland. These students travelled to Tampere, Finland, the week before to the ITF World Championships.
Mark Heavin won bronze in the Junior Individual Male Sparring division -65kg. Mark won tough rounds and he narrowly bowed out in the semi-finals against Scotland in a close match.
Cian Barrett went all the way with his team mates to win Gold against Romania in the Junior Male Team Pattern section, strongly winning all rounds including the final.
With over 1,000 competitors from all over the world, medals are hard earned and we are very proud of Cian and Mark’s achievements.
Well done to our other club members selected for Team Ireland, Thomas Fogarty, Dean Carthy, Paul Heavin, Alison O’Shea, Jack Barrett and Evie Finucane, all performing very well, some only missing out on medals.
We have a very young Irish team who are developing and getting better with every campaign.
Ireland ranked 2nd overall in the world at these championships with a total of 10 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals.
We wish to thank everyone for their continued support with our fundraising throughout the year in the community to help these athletes with funding their trips to these championships. We really do appreciate it.
Next up now is the Irish Cup Championships in University of Limerick this November. Preparations are underway!
Limited availability in our Mallow and Dromahane Clubs.
