Mallow will play host to an international marching band in October as part of the 2013 Cork Rebel Week. The week, which forms a major part of Gathering events in Cork, will run from October 14th to 20th and a committee will be set up shortly to arrange local host families for the band members who will be staying in the town for up to four nights. Cllr. Ronan Sheehan told the Mallow Star that the host band will give performances in Mallow during its stay and it is also hoped to invite other bands and groups to join in the celebrations. An appeal will be made for host families in the coming weeks.
During Cork Rebel Week towns and districts all over the county will welcome international bands, and various events will be held, culminating in the International Marching Band Competition Parade and parade of naval shipmen from all around the world on Saturday 19th October in Cork city.
The Rebel Passport Roadshow is also visiting Mallow in the coming weeks to publicise the many events happening during Cork Rebel Week.
