Three of Mallow’s most famous sons were remembered on Tuesday when Mayor Noel O’Connor unveiled a plaque in honour of Thomas Davis, Canon Sheehan and William O’Brien. The event took place outside Mallow Library where Mayor O’Connor said that the entire Clock House/Tuckey’s Hill area will be transformed within the next 15 months with the creation of a civic plaza, incorporating a statue of Thomas Davis.
Minister of State Sean Sherlock also spoke at the event, and he said that the Provost of Trinity College, Patrick Prendergast, has accepted an invitation to come to Mallow next year for the Thomas Davis bicentenary celebrations.
Funding for next year’s events will come from the Department of An Taoiseach, as part of the lead-up to the Easter Rising centenary commemoration in 2016.
