Newcastle West on Saturday for the meeting of Monagea and Old Mill in the replay of the Ladies Football Junior Championship final.

There was lots of good football from both sides. Monagea got off to a flying start with a point. Catherine Harnett and Bridget Cahill put them 0- 4 ahead. Old Mill replied when full forward Noreen Leahy found the net. Claire O’Riordan and Clare Mulcahy got on the score sheet before Old Mill got their second goal by Noreen Kiely from a penalty in the 15th minute. Monagea got a goal towards the end of the first half. Claire O’Riordan sent the ball to the back of the net to leave the sides deadlocked 1-5 to 2-2 at half time.

Monagea got a great start to the second half with Claire O’Riordan scoring a cracking penalty. Old Mill responded and Noreen Kelly got in for a goal to leave her side four points in arrears.

Despite a couple of late Jessica Quaid points, Monagea held out for a two point victory.

Great credit must go to both teams for a brilliant game of football in wet conditions. This game was very close until Monagea upped a gear in the second half. At the final whistle it was Monagea who were celebrating.

The Tom Madigan Cup was presented to winning captain Catherine Harnett. Tom presented the cup and thanked both teams for a wonderful game and also thanked Newcastle West for the pitch. He thanked Seamus Mulvihill from Kerry who handled the game very well and let the game flow.

MINOR A FINAL

Dromcollogher Broadford and St. Ailbe’s will play in the minor final tonight Wednesday night under lights. What a cracking game this is going to be. May the best team win. A big crowd is expected.

MINOR B SEMI FINAL

The Monagea and Mungret semi final didn’t go ahead on Sunday last, it was postponed.
