There has been much criticism this week that Limerick will have only one Covid-19 vaccination centre, and also the fact that the centre will be at the Radisson Blu Hotel on the Ennis Road, which is actually in Co. Clare.
The selection of the Radisson Blu Hotel has not been welcomed by people in West Limerick, as it is not easily accessible, and there have been a lot of negative comments on mainstream and social media since Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly made the announcement. Many have made the suggestion that Newcastle West would have been a suitable location for the people living in the west of the county, rather than expecting them to travel to the Ennis Road.
Mayor Michael Collins said that the HSE is considering a second location in the county, and he added that there should be a centre in the west and east of the county as well as in the city. He added that Cork has five vaccination centres, so it made sense to have three in Limerick.
