Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan and Glin Councillor John Sheahan have welcomed the recent announcement by the Minister for Agriculture that he has approved €30,000 for resurfacing works to be carried out at Glin Pier.
The allocation was made following an application by Limerick County Council to the Department of Marine under its Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme. The total works are estimated to cost €40,000 and the Department has allocated 75% of the funding (the maximum available) totalling €30,000 towards the works.
In welcoming the news Deputy O’Donovan said “I welcome the news this morning that Glin is to receive €30,000 towards the resurfacing of the pier. This funding will go a long way towards modernisation and improving safety on the pier. It is a welcome announcement which will benefit the community and many visitors to the area.”
Cllr Sheahan said that he was “Delighted that the application was successful and it is great news for Glin. The works to be carried out are akin to the works that took place at Kilteery pier. This is part of an ongoing programme in the restoration of piers in the county. These essential works when completed will no doubt enhance the works already carried out on the Pier road.”
