On Sunday last, 18th December, Santa arrived to a large awaiting crowd gathered outside the people’s Hall in Kilmallock. Santa arrived a little late after having to be rescued by Kilmallock Fire Brigade and his helpers arrived in a beautiful convertible belonging to Mike Daffy and driven by P.J. Madden. All the children visited Santa in his lovely grotto and were very amazed by his magic chimney and their photos were taken by Carmel Ryan. Adults were treated to live music by The Newtones (Tony and Joanne Connery) followed by D.J. Mossie who entertained them for the rest of the evening. There was plenty of refreshments and home baking by Margaret Enright, Nellie Enright and Noreen Power which went down a treat. Thanks to Breda Hickey for her great help in the kitchen. Children enjoyed arts and crafts, face painting, colouring competition and various raffles. Thanks to Michelle Cagney, Michelle Hannon, Chris and Claire Quirke and Louise Heffernan for their help with these activities. There was a raffle for two home Man United tickets which were sponsored by Ivan Whitley and Kilmallock Man United Supporters Club. There was also a monster raffle with over 40 prizes sponsored by local businesses and many from outside Kilmallock. A big thank you to Santa himself for making time in his busy schedule to stop in Kilmallock and meet all the boys and girls. Also a big thank you to Mike Kelly, caretaker of the Peoples Hall and his crew Teresa Cummins and Marian Sheehan who were very good to us in the run up to our event. Thank you to Margaret O’Connor from Ballyhoura who also helped out on the day and who provided advice and assistance to us over the past few months. We must also thank Cliona Hennessy who developed all the photos specially on the evening. Thanks to everyone who came on the day and supported this event and made it such a success. The Residents’ Association of Radharc na Cille in conjunction with the Sophie Mulcahy Fund would like to thank everybody for their great help and support for this very successful event. A final thank you to the Vale Star for sending Ita along to – in her own words – shoot us all!
