The annual Secondary Schools Quiz organised by Newcastle West and District Lions Club took place on Thursday last at the Courtenay Lodge Hotel. Once again this year the contest for both junior and senior competitions went right down to the wire. Lions President Michael Liston was loud in his praise for the teachers, parents and students whose presence made this occasion possible.
The junior title was retained by Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher, with their team of John Ahern, Aaron Walsh, Cathal Meaney and Mairead Lordan squeezing ahead by the narrowest of margins in the final round. In the senior competition the final round was also the deciding factor with Stephen Doyle, Paul Hanley, Andy Downes and Joel Hartney hanging on to bring the trophy back to Scoil Mhuire, Askeaton by a single point. Congratulations to all the students who took part.
